Diet Pill Madness

Published by justjessi at 12:46 am under body dismorphia, body image, bulimia, triggers Edit This

OK so I’m not supposed to take diet pills.  I’m not supposed to think about diet pills.  Diet pills and I are not friends. Diet pills bad.

So why do they torment me?

I counted 17 commercials that promoted a diet pill of some sort, all promising to help you shed “Pounds of body fat!” in a two hour period (I work at home…TV’s background noise). 17 commercials for weight loss supplements in two hours.  And here’s the kicker…I was listening to preschool channels!!

In between ads for the newest Barbie Jeep on Playhouse Disney there were ads for Lipotrim or whatever its called.  Switching to PBS Kids didn’t make it any better.

I’m supposed to accept my body the way it is, something they taught in therapy.  To love the person you are in the body you have.  Well that would be much easier to do if commercials didn’t come on every 5 minutes asking questions like “Are you overweight?” “Do you have unsightly body weight?”  “Do you suffer from a slow metabolism?”.   All of which I answer with a fervent “Yes!”

And the before pictures these commercials use ALWAYS resemble my body much more than the after pictures do.  (I’m starting to think they digitally enhance those before pictures or something…)

So how in the hell am I supposed to avoid diet pills?!?!?

Isn’t that BS??? I hate that about TV! If diet pills worked then everyone would be doing them. They don’t work only eating right and exercise is the way to go. You cna exercise just not over doing it which you do. Marc will help you and then you will start seeing what you want out of your body. Just take it slow and stay with it!!!! Love you

    Jessi,
I just read through the first page of your blog and it’s great. Very well written and personal. Thanks for having the courage to share this with others. I think even those of us who are not recovering from eating disorders can sympathize with everything you write. I’m adding your blog to both of my blogrolls. Please check out my blogs, and feel free to link them if you’d like. Thanks!
