Night Eating

Published by justjessi at 11:26 am under Night Eating, bulimia, food Edit This

This morning a bag of doughnuts were gone.  A week ago there were two ice-cream bar wrappers on the table.  I’ve woken up to find bowls in the sink that weren’t there when I went to bed the night before. My husband works nights and unless my daughter can fly, as well as climb out of her bed, she can’t reach the cereal in the cabinets so I have to assume that I’m the one eating the food that goes missing.

Sadly O can’t fly, even worse I am the culprit behind the missing food.  Last night Marc caught me trying to dip my hand into the cookie jar, figuratively speaking; he told me no and apparently I laid down and went right back to sleep.  But this morning when we woke up what was left of the Krispy Kreme Kruellers were gone and I have no memory of eating them.

Apparently this is not so uncommon; night eating syndrome (NES) or sleep-related eating disorder (SRED), two different night eating disorders, appear to be a batty attempt of the brain to correct bulimia, anorexia, or any other case where your body is missing nutrients…at least this is the general agreement of most of what I’ve read in the last hour and a half.

Whatever it is I find it extremely depressing.  It’s hard enough for me to deal with what I do manage to eat during the day…

how am I supposed to deal with what I can’t remember eating at night?
